Quick Answer
Choghadiya divides daylight into eight roughly 90-minute slots and the night into eight more. Amrit, Shubh and Labh are good, Char is neutral and workable for travel, and Udveg, Kaal and Rog are avoided. The order depends on the weekday, so today's table is different from tomorrow's.
What the seven names mean
Amrit is the best of the set, good for anything, and the one to reach for when you have a choice. Shubh suits ceremonies, marriage-related work and anything you want blessed. Labh means gain, so it is the trader's window: launches, sales calls, new accounts. Char is mobile and neutral, traditionally the travel slot.
Udveg brings agitation and is best kept for routine chores. Rog relates to illness and conflict, so it is avoided for health decisions and confrontations. Kaal is the one most people avoid entirely for beginnings, though it is tolerated for money recovery in some traditions.
How today’s order is decided
Each weekday starts its daytime cycle on a different name, then the seven names repeat in fixed order until the eight slots are filled. Night has its own starting point. Because the slots are eighths of the actual daylight and night length at your location, they stretch in summer and compress in winter.
This is why a Choghadiya printed for the whole country is only ever approximate. The table above uses sunrise and sunset computed for the city you select, to the minute.
Using Choghadiya without overthinking it
Choghadiya is a day-planner tool, not a fate meter. Most people use it for the small decisions where a good hour is free to pick: when to make the call, when to send the proposal, when to leave the house, when to sign. For a wedding date, a property registration or a business incorporation you want a proper muhurat built from the chart, not just the day division.
A simple habit that works: check the table once in the morning, note the two Amrit or Labh slots, and park anything important in them. Ignore the rest.
Choghadiya, Rahu Kaal and muhurat together
These systems overlap and sometimes disagree: a Labh slot can sit inside Rahu Kaal. The usual resolution is that Rahu Kaal wins for a fresh start, so you pick the other good slot. Abhijit Muhurat around noon is the strongest general-purpose window and can rescue a day with a badly placed Choghadiya table.
If you want all three checked against your own running Dasha and current transits rather than the day alone, that is what the free Kundli tool and astrologer chat do after sign-in.
A real example: reading Tuesday's day Choghadiya
Tuesday's daytime cycle starts with Rog at sunrise, then runs Udveg, Char, Labh, Amrit, Kaal, Shubh and finally Rog again to close the eighth slot, that is the fixed weekday order the names cycle through. If sunrise in your city is 6:15 am and sunset 6:00 pm, each of the eight slots is about 88 minutes. Labh, the fourth slot, would then run from roughly 10:39 am to 12:07 pm, a good stretch for sending a proposal or making a sales call.
Notice Rog opens and closes the day on Tuesday. That is why a Tuesday morning before 7:40 am or so is usually not the moment to start something health-related or confrontational, even though it is early and feels like a fresh start.
Who maintains this table
AstroFuture AI, built by the BEONE DEAL team, runs this calculation on Swiss Ephemeris sunrise and sunset data rather than a fixed printed cycle. We verify the weekday starting names and the eight-slot division against standard panchang references whenever the underlying astronomy library is updated.
What Choghadiya will not tell you
It ranks hours of a generic day, it does not know your chart. A Labh slot is still a weak hour if your Dasha is working against the thing you are starting. For anything with real stakes, a proper muhurat built from your birth details carries more weight than the day table alone.
