Manglik Dosha Calculator: Check, Effects, Cancellation

Find out if Mars sits in the houses that create Manglik Dosha in your chart, and which classical cancellation rules genuinely apply to you.

Quick Answer

Manglik Dosha, also called Kuja Dosha or Mangal Dosha, occurs when Mars is placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from your Lagna, Moon sign, or in some traditions Venus. It is traditionally linked to friction in marriage. However classical texts also list genuine cancellation rules, and many charts with Mars there are not seriously affected once those are checked.

What is Manglik (Kuja) Dosha

Manglik Dosha forms when Mars occupies specific houses, most commonly the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th, counted from your Lagna. Some astrologers also check this from the Moon sign, and a smaller set of traditions check it from Venus as well, which can mean a person is technically Manglik from one reference point but not another.

The classical concern is that Mars, a hot and aggressive planet, placed in houses connected to marriage (2nd, 7th, 8th house of the spouse's longevity, 12th of the marital bed) can bring friction, impatience or conflict into married life if unaddressed. It does not mean divorce is guaranteed, it means extra caution around communication and temperament is traditionally advised.

Just as important as detecting the dosha is checking the many cancellation (nivaran) conditions classical texts list, since a large number of technically Manglik charts turn out to be effectively cancelled once these are properly checked.

How we check your Manglik status

  1. 1

Calculate your Lagna and Moon sign

Both are computed precisely from your date, time and place of birth using sidereal Lahiri ayanamsa.

  2. 2

    Locate Mars' house position

We check whether Mars falls in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from Lagna, Moon and, where relevant, Venus.

  3. 3

    Apply classical cancellation rules

Mars' own sign placement, aspects from Jupiter, and other classical nivaran conditions are checked against your specific chart.

  4. 4

    Give an honest verdict

You get a clear yes, no, or "technically yes but largely cancelled" answer, with the actual reasoning shown, not just a label.

What you get on AstroFuture AI

Checked from Lagna, Moon and Venus

We do not rely on just one reference point, since traditions vary and results can differ.

Real cancellation rules applied

We check Mars' own sign, exaltation, and Jupiter aspects, not just flag the dosha and stop there.

No fear-based framing

A Manglik chart is explained honestly as a factor to consider, not as a marriage-ending curse.

Explained reasoning shown

See exactly which house Mars is in and why the dosha applies or does not, not a black-box result.

Who is this for?

  • Anyone told they are Manglik and wanting to actually verify it
  • Families discussing a match where one side is said to be Manglik
  • People wanting to understand cancellation rules before assuming the worst
  • Anyone preparing for kundli matching who wants this checked upfront
  • People curious whether Manglik status differs across Lagna, Moon and Venus

A worked example with cancellation applied

Say your Lagna is Capricorn and Mars sits in the 7th house, Cancer. On the surface this looks like a clear Manglik case, since the 7th house is one of the classical dosha-forming positions. But Mars in Cancer is debilitated, which some traditions actually treat as intensifying certain effects, while others check whether Jupiter aspects that 7th house.

If Jupiter, from the 3rd or 11th house, casts its aspect onto that Cancer Mars, most classical texts consider this a genuine cancellation, meaning the dosha's practical impact is considered largely neutralised. This is exactly the kind of nuance a flat "Manglik: Yes/No" checker misses, and why we show the full reasoning rather than a bare label.

What to actually do if you are genuinely Manglik

If, after checking cancellations, the dosha still stands, classical advice is practical rather than dramatic: matching with another Manglik chart, timing the wedding during a supportive period in both partners' Dasha, and consciously working on patience and communication in the early years of marriage.

We do not recommend expensive rituals as a fixed requirement, a grounded look at the actual chart, honest conversation between families, and reasonable timing choices tend to matter more in practice than anxiety over the label itself.

A real example: Mars in the 8th house with a double-Manglik match

Consider a woman with Aries Lagna and Mars placed in the 8th house, Scorpio, its own sign. The 8th-house placement is one of the six classical Manglik positions, so she is technically Manglik from the Lagna. But Mars sitting in Scorpio, a sign it rules, is classically read as a strength, not a weakness, which is one recognised mitigating factor even before checking anything else.

Her prospective match, a man with Mars in the 2nd house from Lagna, is also Manglik. When both partners carry the dosha in a broadly comparable way, classical matchmaking treats this as a practical cancellation, the friction each chart would otherwise cause the other is considered balanced out. Combined with Mars' own-sign strength on her side, this case would reasonably be read as Manglik on paper but not a real concern in practice, which is exactly the kind of nuance a bare Yes/No label misses.

Who maintains this calculator's rules

This calculator is built and maintained by the AstroFuture AI team at BEONE DEAL. Lagna, Moon sign and Mars positions use the Swiss Ephemeris with Lahiri ayanamsa and True Moon, and the house-based dosha rule plus its classical cancellation conditions follow Parashari astrology. Rule changes are checked against established astrology software before release so a Manglik verdict here matches what a professional's chart software would show for the same birth details.

What a Manglik check cannot settle by itself

Manglik status is one factor among several that go into a marriage decision, it is not a full compatibility reading on its own. It says nothing about Nadi or Bhakoot dosha, the seventh house, or Dasha timing, which come from a complete kundli matching report, and different traditions do genuinely disagree on whether to check from Lagna, Moon or Venus, so treat a single-source "Manglik: Yes" with some caution and look at the full reasoning.
