Dosha Guides: What Each Dosha Really Means in Your Kundli

Every second matrimonial rejection in India uses the word "dosha", and most of them are wrong. These guides break down each dosha the way a working astrologer would, what actually causes it in the chart, when it self-cancels, and which remedies are worth your time.

How a dosha is actually diagnosed

A dosha is never a label attached to a birth date. It is a specific placement: Mars in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from Lagna for Manglik; Saturn transiting the 12th, 1st and 2nd from the natal Moon for Sade Sati; all seven planets sitting between the Rahu-Ketu axis for Kaal Sarp; the Sun or Moon afflicted with Rahu, Ketu or Saturn in the 9th for Pitra Dosha.

That means a correct diagnosis needs an accurate chart first: Lahiri Ayanamsa, exact birth time, and True Moon for the Nakshatra. A dosha claimed without those three is guesswork, and it is the most common reason two astrologers disagree about the same person.

Cancellations come before remedies

Classical texts give each dosha its own cancellation rules, and they fire far more often than most consultations admit. Manglik cancels when Mars is in its own sign or in a friendly sign, when both partners carry it, or after the age of 28 when Saturn matures. Bhakoot cancels when the Rashi lords are the same planet or mutual friends. Nadi Dosha cancels when both partners share the same Nakshatra with different Padas.

Check every cancellation before spending a rupee on a remedy. In practice only a minority of diagnosed doshas survive that check, and those are the ones worth timing your decisions around.

What honest remedies look like

A real remedy is cheap, repeatable and tied to the afflicted planet: mantra japa on the planet's weekday, a fast from dawn to sunset, feeding or donating the planet's items, and a single well-timed temple puja. Cost ranges are known and published, so a quote far above them is a sales figure, not an astrological one.

The strongest remedy is timing. A dosha rarely acts continuously, it acts loudest in the Mahadasha and Antardasha of the involved planet. Reading the Dasha alongside the dosha tells you which years need caution and which are safe for marriage, property or a career jump.
