Quick Answer

A natal chart calculator maps the planets for your exact birth date, time and place. In Vedic astrology, this sidereal chart is also called a Janam Kundli. It shows your Lagna, 12 houses, nine grahas, Moon sign and Nakshatra, creating a personal birth horoscope that is different from a general daily Sun-sign horoscope.

What a Vedic astrology natal chart shows

A natal chart records the zodiac positions of the planets at birth and arranges them around the Ascendant, or Lagna. The twelve houses represent areas such as identity, family, learning, home, creativity, health, partnership, change, beliefs, career, gains and retreat. The signs describe how a placement behaves, while the planets describe the energy or function being expressed.

In Indian astrology, the natal chart is usually called a Kundli, Janam Kundli or Rasi chart. The word horoscope can mean this complete birth map, although it is also used for short daily forecasts. This calculator creates the full personal map; it does not assign the same prediction to everyone with one Sun sign.

A complete Vedic reading also considers Nakshatras, planetary dignity, house ownership, aspects, conjunctions, Yogas and the running Vimshottari Dasha. These factors can reinforce or modify one another, which is why a natal chart should be read as a connected system rather than as twelve isolated labels.

How the natal horoscope calculator works

  1. 1

    Set the birth moment

Your date and local birth time establish the planetary positions and the zodiac degree rising in the east.

  2. 2

    Locate the birthplace

Latitude, longitude and historical time-zone information align the chart to the correct local horizon.

  3. 3

    Convert to the Vedic zodiac

Lahiri ayanamsa converts the positions to the sidereal zodiac used for this Vedic natal chart.

  4. 4

    Build and interpret the chart

The calculator places the grahas in signs and houses, then adds Nakshatra, Dasha and divisional-chart context.

Vedic natal chart versus Western natal chart

Most Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, which accounts for the precession of the equinoxes through an ayanamsa. Most modern Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, anchored to the seasonal equinox. As a result, the same planet can appear in different signs across the two systems.

This calculator uses the sidereal zodiac with Lahiri ayanamsa and presents the chart in the Vedic framework. A different result from a Western calculator does not automatically mean either calculation is broken; first confirm that both use the same zodiac, birth time and birthplace.

Natal chart, birth chart, horoscope and Kundli

Natal chart and birth chart both mean a chart calculated for the moment of birth. Kundli or Janam Kundli is the common Indian term for the Vedic version. Horoscope can refer to the full chart and its interpretation, but in everyday use it often means a daily or monthly forecast.

For a personal reading, the underlying calculation matters more than the label. Check that the result uses your exact time and place, identifies its zodiac system and ayanamsa, and shows enough placement data for the interpretation to be checked.

A simple order for reading your natal chart

  1. Start with the Lagna, its ruler and any planets in the 1st house.
  2. Read the Moon sign and Nakshatra for the mind and emotional habits.
  3. Check each planet by sign, house, dignity, conjunction and aspect.
  4. Review important house lords rather than judging one placement alone.
  5. Use D9 and D10 for focused context, then use Dasha for timing.
